SALARY RANGE
According to Hammond Central School District’s Teachers’ Association Contract

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • NYS certification for Counseling
  • Knowledge of student support services
  • Strong communication and collaborative consultation skills


MAJOR DUTIES

 

  • Understands and complies with relevant laws and policies as related to students’ rights, teachers’ and counselors’ responsibilities

  • Plan, implement, and assess Student Prevention Programs

  • Develop Prevention Programs for identified at-risk students

  • Provide early identification and treatment counseling services for referred students

  • Conduct appropriate remedial treatment for students and make appropriate referrals to outside agencies when necessary

  • Acts as a resource person for school staff, parents and members of the community

  • Collaborates with the principal and staff to review records and recommended improvements

  • Shares responsibility for the school-wide student testing program and reporting of tests results

  • Creates a mutually respectful, safe and supportive learning environment that is inclusive of every student

  • Uses research-based practices and evidence of student learning to provide developmentally appropriate and standards-driven instruction that motivates and engages students in learning

  • Establishes goals and expectations for all students that are aligned with learning standards and allow for multiple pathways to achievement including the new high school graduation requirements for Students with Disabilities

  • Acquire knowledge of individual students from students, families, guardians, and/or caregivers to enhance student support and learning; keep parents informed regularly of their child’s progress via progress notes, phone calls, emails, parent/teacher conferences

  • Sets goals for and engage in ongoing professional development needed to continuously improve counseling competencies

  • Other responsibilities as designated by Principal
